The weather both days was in the 90’s . . . not cold. As will be a theme for tournaments this summer, we didn’t have our full roster, but we had enough to survive the heat!

On Saturday, our first game of the season pitted us against Slow White, a perennial nationals contender from Boston, and an all-around fun team. We spotted them 4 points, but then made it more interesting. They surged at the end to pull it out by 2, 11-13. We then played AMP, the home team, and fought our way to a 13-8 victory and our first win of the season. We next beat North Carolina’s wHagonweel 13-7, though the game felt much closer with their high level of intensity. Finally, we ran into regional rival Gambit, who may have been out of gas at the end of the day, as we took the game 13-4.

Sunday morning we finished pool play by squaring off against Zojirushi from New York. Zoji struggled to pull it together first thing in the morning, and we took a commanding lead, winning 13-5. We finished 2nd in our pool (behind Slow), placing us in semifinals against the tournament’s #1 seed, District 5, a new mixed team based in New Haven, CT. District dispatched us 11-13, and went on to win the tournament. In the 3rd place game, we played the Gun Totin Teddy Bears, and won 15-7.
