Team Retreat
Highbridge, WI
August 11-12
Drag’n Thrust retreated to Highbridge in Northern Wisconsin for their annual team retreat. The Highbridge Hills Disc Golf Course was very generous in putting up lodging for the team, and even going so far as to offer fields for the team to practice on as well. A huge thanks goes out to them, and the city of Highbridge in their generosity.
Throughout the weekend, Drag’n Thrust was put through a rigorous series of organized (or “core”) practices, following it’s past success at previous retreats. Practices were predominantly focused on improving as a team, however there was a healthy mix of fun and individual improvements as well. Drag’n Thrust was able to work through a series of prior challenges, such as zone, handler sets, and cutter clearing. The local population even took some time to watch part of the practices, as Drag’n scrimmaged near the end of the evening on Saturday.

Along with a strong practice showing, Drag’n Thrust was also able to have some fun, getting to know each other over Friday and Saturday night. While the captains didn’t have anything official planned for social hour, the team as a whole had their ideas for the night set. Late arrivals Friday night allowed the Drag’ns to huddle around the TV, sharing their own past while watching the Olympics. Saturday’s natural meteor shower gave the Dragn’s plenty to see, while avoiding getting ‘iced’ or the sporadic collapse of a Jumbling Towers disaster.
As is tradition, every year the Drag’ns create a family. By the end of the team retreat, this fractured team of new, old, and ancient players had finally become whole, and the Drag’ns began to accept each other as family.
